April is almost here, and with it comes another incentive.
Attached you will find suggestions on how to teach kids to give
compliments.
Tracking Class CAT Compliments:
1) Have a class
discussion on how to give compliments.
2) Students
need to keep track of the compliments they give throughout the day. They
can write this down or keep in their memory banks.
3) At the end
of each day, students can fill in/color in one star for each compliment they
gave on the class paw. They can tell the class what it was.
4) Teachers can
individually decide if they want to award something tangible once a class paw
is filled in or not. This is being left up to each teacher because we
wanted to focus this month on intrinsic rewards (feeling good for doing the
right thing whether an award is given or not).
5) If you heard
of any really “cool” compliments that students gave, feel free to record them
and pass them onto me. We would like to share some of them at our next
assembly.
6) Paras,
specialists, interventionists: We want you to be involved too! Please let
a teacher know if you heard a compliment from a student that you really
liked. It can be student to student OR student to teacher. The
teacher can make sure that a star gets filled in for it.
7) Remember to
print a new paw with stars if you fill one up!!
As always, please let us know if you have any questions!
